Postprocessing with Photoshop - Crossprocessing

This tutorial was performed with Adobe Photoshop CS5.

Cross-processing

Photographs can be made to look as if they were cross-processed quite easily with a Curves adjustment layer. Note that cross-processing was done in the past by using a different type of chemicals for a different type of film, like C-41 and E-6. Open up your image; we'll modify it so the left image looks like the right image.

Adding a crossprocess curves adjustment layer

Add a 'Curves' adjustment layer from the Layers panel. You need to adjust the Red/Green/Blue curves separately. Although every photo will require slightly modified settings, here's a good start:

After this, the contrast has changed. Change the layer's mode to 'Color' to avoid this. Also, you can change the adjustment layer's opacity to decrease the effect.
